Bertha von Suttner

Client: Peace Post / Selman Design NYC

Peace Post is a collection of 198 portraits of peace advocates by over 100 artists. The Project was initiated by the New York Design Studio Selman. I did the portrait for Austria by illlustrating the peace activist and feminist Bertha von Suttner.

Bertha von Suttner, an Austro-Bohemian noblewoman and pacifist, became the first woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 1905. Her novel Lay Down Your Arms! inspired the Austrian peace movement and promoted disarmament and international justice.

Despite personal hardships and illness, she remained a tireless advocate, influencing key peace conferences. Her legacy lives on through commemorative coins, stamps, and statues in Vienna and Graz.
